Phil
Congratulations to on putting together this site to, as you say, one of the great bands of the 80’s.
My name is Phil also, however, I am mostly known as Snowy and back in the days when the Never Never were around I was a family friend of Paul Fulford. I was mates with his brothers actually.
Anyway, we used to get to go and see them a lot, mostly the Corn Dolly and mostly on Sundays if I remember correctly. I might not, it was a long time a go. I did see them in other places too, I can picture the event in my mind but I can’t remember the venue’s names.
I remember them splitting up, again if I remember correctly it was a political move. Neil had left first, don’t know why and a guy called Pete Birkin stood in for a while and then I think Bryan had had enough too. This left Dane and Paul – The Vetos.
I remember seeing the Vetos play at the Crown Hotel in Leamington Spa (our home town), a well known rough venue left over from the Punk days. It was a difficult crowd to please but they pulled it off.
Being a kind of friend of the bands, I got to see them a lot. I was on first name terms back then with the band and given enough time to remember could probably regurgitate a bit more info.
It was Paul who turned me on to synths and electronic music. When he had finished with both bands I bought his Moog (multimoog) which he used to gig. I couldn’t afford the Prophet V unfortunately. Anyway, I am still banging away at the keyboards and making the odd track.
The reason I found your site is because from time to time I try to look for Paul using the net to thank him, because I don’t think he knows what he started and I’d love him to hear what I do. Sadly, most of his family have passed on or moved on and I don’t know any direct way of getting in touch. I did bump in to one of his other brothers last year and he told me that the last he new Paul was in Canada working in IT.
I don’t have any pictures I’m afraid, just my failing memory. I do have a tape, though of the Never Never. The cover is a black and white photo of them on stage. I think you have it listed.
Anyway, great site, stated to bring back memories. If any of the band do get in touch pass on my regards. If it is Paul, please put him in touch with me.
Thanks. Snowy.
