These pages have nothing to do with The Never Never Band from Geelong, Australia, or any similarly named currently-gigging combo.
No, this is about the original Never Never Band from the UK, one of the best live bands I ever saw.
It’s an opportunity for me to dredge the memory and re-live some great musical moments from 1979/80. It was a long time ago, so please forgive any errors caused by distorted recollection, incorrect assumption or wishful thinking. You should not rely on anything you read here, but I’ll do my best.
I would welcome contact from anyone who saw the band, particularly from anybody who has recordings, photographs, press cuttings or, hope of hopes, a video.
Regular visitors to the site will know that we’ve heard from Bryan and Neil and had a brief message from Dane via the Forum. The whereabouts of Paul and Peter are still a mystery. The search continues.....
Having listened to the growing number of recordings I’ve collected from fellow fans since starting the site, I now appreciate Dane’s talent more than ever. His superbly crafted songs were delivered with vocal power, passion and panache. And his guitar playing? Well, if there’s a better guitar solo in the history of the universe than that featured in ‘The Kicker’ from the Dolly recording, then I’d love to hear it. Quite remarkable. What’s he doing now, I wonder?
These pages are produced as a tribute to a truly great band. If I’ve unwittingly done anything to annoy the band, its individual members or anyone representing them over copyright or anything else, please get in touch.
Finally, if you enjoy reading these pages, please consider dropping a few coins in the collection tin at your local Oxfam shop.
