- Most of this you can install right from the Ubuntu Software Center. (based off 10.04 and 10.10 ).

Alien Arena - Kill Mars Attacks like aliens on a Quake style single or multi player game

Amor - stupid little desktop virtual pet.

Amarok - The best all around music player.

Audacity - This is the best professional audio recording software there is. Works good with my USB mixer and great for podcasters.

Avant - Mac style task bar, say no more. - Once installed delete the current taskbar and in awm presf make sure it starts with the system.

Bleach Bit - This is similar to CCleaner basically cleans out the junk. be careful what you choose I suggest you carefully look at what you are removing before running this as root.

Boot Manager - Make changes to startup services.

Calibre - The best e-book organizer and reader, that syncs to most portable readers.
Note the Calibre in 10.xx is older and I suggest removing it and reinstalling it from here. Download Here

Chromium Browser - Googles entry into the browser world, I kind of like it better that Firefox, it seems way faster to me.

Compiz/CCSM -  Desktop effects, spinning desktops in cubes with water and rain, cooler than Fonzie.

DOSBox - MS Winblows DOS emulation program. Good for older games and programs

DropBox - cloud backup computing, like UbuntuOne and it gives you free 2GB of storage. Download Here

Filezilla - A pretty good FTP client.

Fortune - my favorite terminal application, once installed open a terminal and type fortune then hit enter.

Gimp - The Poor Man's Photoshop. This is one of my favorite things to play with. I put my friends heads on Benito Mussolini's body.

Google Talk Plug in - used inside gmail and g+'s web pages to audio and video chat with other users. Download Here

Internet DJ Console - A must for DJ's, Audiophiles and Podcasters.

Keepass - the best way to securely store your passwords.

Last.fm - I have an account and from time to time like to listen to it without using the web page interface.

Miro - rss / torrent video downloader

Nero - Not Free but I like i better than Brasero.  Download Here

Pidgin - All around multi protocol chat client. Us this with aim/yim/jabber/Google talk/facebook and many more. latest build Download Here

Play On Linux uses scripts to install and menu most windows games and major software.

Putty - 3270 and Telnet emulator.

Sea Monkey - Web Browser / E-Mail Client and HTML Editor - It's the old Netscape suite redone. very good install I do only use it for the HTML editor though.

Skype - The same program you would find in a few other operating systems.

Stellarium - Virtual Planitarium

Startup Manager - Make changes to the GRUB boot loader.

Ubuntu Tweak - This tools saves me from using the gconf tool to fix a ton of stuff. It's like that app tweakui for xp. Download Here

VLC - Play every kind of media file I have thrown at it.

Webcam Studio - I use this inside G+ Hangouts to make me look like an alien. Oh wait I already look like one.

Wine - A windows emulator, works with a ton of windows software.
