• Had a rich social culture

B. Farmers

• Worked the land according to the region
• Relied on Family members for labor

C. Artisans

• Worked as craftsman in towns and on plantations
• Lived in small villiages and cities

D. Women

• Worked as caretakers, houseworkers, and homemakers
• Could not vote
• Had few chances for an education

E. Indentured Servants

• Worked for someone 5-7 years in order to pay for passage to the colonies
• Were freed at the end of their contract

F. Slaves

• Were caught in Africa and sold to slave traders.
• Were owned as property for life with no rights
• Were often born into slavery
